Websites have become the identity of any business organization. Even though each website is different from one another but the main features remain almost the same. As we know there are different types of websites, one thing common among all these types are social media links.
Social media has such influence in business these days that, there is a separate service called Social Media Marketing. The story doesn’t end there. It takes less than an hour to spread a great or a bad news in social media. Well, I would say bad news spreads faster. But ignoring this risk, as soon as you open a business website, you should also open accounts in all the popular social media. That’s right, open a page on Facebook, a Google plus, Instagram and twitter account, LinkedIn profile and in other relevant social media accounts.
I found it quite surprising that I used to share my digital products regularly on these social media and used to get regular sale on my items. Until I came to know it’s not because of sharing but because of spreading what I am offering to customers, luckily few of them actually became my customers.
Last time, I got a project where a client asked me to find images (not from Google) of products from different brands and edit them all together. The client gave me direction in this way, “To find the pictures easily, go to the official website and there you will find social media links of Facebook and Instagram. Go there and collect the perfect pictures.” I almost got all of them except a few which didn’t have Facebook or Instagram pages and they were left out. So you might actually be left out from the competition if you don’t have a social media page. Don’t just have a social media page, add it to you website so that visitors can click the link and can be redirected to the social media pages. It’s very easy to add images and description on social media pages than in websites. Because there are lots of things you need to know before adding a product on website than on Facebook or Instagram.
Another reason for adding social media link on websites is that people visits Facebook more frequently than on websites. And often if visitors like what you are displaying on Facebook/Instagram pages they might actually look for a website on your page and visit it to contact you.
Make sure you add the social media links on the footer and not in any other places as that’s the proper place to put Social media links. It implies that, you are exiting the site but stay connected with us via your favorite social media.
The “About Us” part can be added in the footer if there is not a long story or you don’t need a whole “About Us” page. For example, if its an online clothing store you might skip the about us page instead add few lines in the footer, especially if you are a new brand.
It’s quite common and reasonable to add contact us in the bottom. The reason is same as adding social media links in the footer, that is, your visitors will contact you after reading everything above the footer and not before that. Furthermore, you should add terms and conditions, policy and career links in the footer. If you have a blog site, add that in the footer as well. No need to add it to the menu bar because, if you are offering a service or product, i am pretty sure you have more important things to put in the menu bar. If you have special offerings like secured payment, 24 hours service and so on, you should add this above footer and not in the footer.
Finally, make sure that your footer is not busy. Too much content in the footer looks messy and unattractive. For Social links footer is a great place but it is not only the place where it is proper or it should be. It usually depends on the design of the site, So hard recommendation might be a point of conflict.
